HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Commissioner Tom Ramsey is adding a new community center to the Atascocita area as part of his mission to meet needs of the 1.2 million residents who call Precinct 3 home.
Nestled by the popular Atascocita Park in the Lake Houston area, the 8,500-square-foot community center will feature classrooms, large community rooms, kitchen, and a coffee bar for community members to enjoy. The center addition will also complete two action items from the precinct’s award-winning Parks and Trails Master Plan generated by community feedback – a call for a community center in the area and better trail connectivity to Atascocita Park.
“One thing we do best in Precinct 3 is listen to our residents, and when they said they wanted a community center near them in the Atascocita area during the development of our Parks and Trails Master Plan, we were excited to hit the ground running and take action on that input,” said Commissioner Ramsey. “We want all of our residents to know that we are working to bring more amenities to them, because that is our duty as local government - to enhance communities through facilities and infrastructure.”
Many visitors from the Atascocita area already frequent May Community Center in Huffman for its host of wellness classes, activities, and programs. This new center will not only lessen their commute time to a Precinct 3 community center but provide new program opportunities for residents located west of the area. With this newest addition, Precinct 3, who is already home to the County’s largest parks and trails network, will also become home to the largest community center network throughout Harris County.
The new community center, located at 17280 W Lake Houston Parkway in Humble, is scheduled to complete its indoor remodeling by the fourth quarter of 2025. The estimated construction of the remodel is $500,000 with Precinct 3 to complete the services in-house. To learn more about Precinct 3 community centers, please visit www.pct3.com/Community-Centers.
