Liz Nuelle Barraza Honored with Harris County's First 'We Remember Memorial'
HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Six years have passed since Liz Nuelle Barraza’s life was taken by a senseless act of violence, but the fight continues to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
In memory of Liz’s life and in advocacy for the countless victims of crime, Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey’s Office and Crime Stoppers of Houston dedicated Harris County’s first We Remember Memorial Bench at Burroughs Park.
“No parent should lose their precious child to an act of violence,” said Commissioner Ramsey. “It is our duty to stand up to these criminals and put an end to it, and that’s why we’re committed to helping Crime Stoppers and our law enforcement partners in every way we can. We want people to visit Liz’s bench, remember her beautiful life, and help us by coming forward with anything they may know about her case.”
Through the We Remember Memorial Project, benches and trees will be placed throughout select Precinct 3 parks each year to increase awareness of homicide victims and their cases. This is also a part of Commissioner Ramsey's commitment to increasing safety in neighborhoods and advocating for victims of violent crimes and their families.
“Our beautiful daughter Liz Nuelle Barraza has a tree with a bench beside it dedicated to her in Burroughs Park,” said her father, Bob Nuelle. “This is a place of peace and beauty in a park that we frequented when Liz was alive. It gives her friends and family a special place where we can go when we need to feel her presence.”
Liz’s life was cut short when she was murdered in 2019 in her driveway as she set up a garage sale to raise money for her and her husband's upcoming anniversary trip to Florida. A reward of $50,000 has been offered through Crime Stoppers to bring her killer to justice.
"The We Remember Memorial Project is a meaningful and lasting tribute to honor victims like Liz Nuelle Barraza, ensuring their lives are never forgotten,” said Crime Stoppers of Houston CEO Rania Mankarious. “Every tree and bench placed in their memory stands as a symbol of love, loss, and the unwavering pursuit of justice. For families who have lost a loved one to violence, these memorials provide a place of reflection, remembrance, and hope,” Mankarious continued. “We urge anyone with information about Liz’s case to come forward—because every victim deserves justice, and every family deserves answers."
Crime Stoppers of Houston remains committed to its mission to solve and prevent serious crimes in the Greater Houston Area and works closely with citizens, media, and the criminal justice system.
